How many grass plants are in your lawn?

September 17, 2025

There are thousands of individual blades of grass in one square foot of your lawn and there can be up to hundreds of thousands (or more) in your lawn!

Fall is a very important time of year in the Louisville area to give your lawn the support it needs to thrive through the winter and flourish in the spring. Here are our top 3 recommendations for taking care of your lawn from fall through winter:

Lawn aeration illustration: Grass before, aerated with oxygen, water, and nutrients, then after, with healthy roots.

Also called core aeration relieves soil compaction from the dense, clay soils in our area which allows water, air, and nutrients to reach the roots. This strengthens the root system - making your grass plants healthier and stronger to help naturally fight weeds.

Seeding helps increase the density of your lawn which leads to a more lush, green lawn next spring; it fills in thinning or bare spots and replaces the old or damaged grass plants in your lawn due to age, stress, or disease issues. We use a Certified seed that is a blend of three Tall Fescue grass types including drought tolerant and shade tolerant varieties to ensure you’re getting desirable, weed free seed.

Fall Fertilizer

The last three applications of our annual fertilization and weed control program focus on providing the micronutrients your grass plants need to feed its roots throughout winter to start spring strong.

Your air conditioning unit works hard to keep your home cool and comfortable through Kentucky’s hot summers. The truth is, many homeowners don’t realize that soil erosion, water runoff, and shifting ground can put their outdoor unit at risk. Over time, these issues can cause debris buildup, water damage, or even impact how efficiently your system runs. The good news? A simple landscaping solution can make all the difference: a retaining wall.

Pooling water in your yard might seem like a small nuisance, but it can signal a much bigger problem. In many cases, standing water around your home is caused by old, cracked, or blocked drain pipes. When your downspouts can’t properly move water away from your house, it can damage your lawn, stress your foundation, and in severe cases, even cause water to leak inside your home. We had a customer in the Fern Creek, KY area who reached out with this exact issue. As you can see in the photos their drain pipe was blocked, very worn, and frankly needed replaced.
