Seeding in Louisville, KY

August 3, 2025

Why seed your lawn in the fall in Louisville, KY?

✔️ Cooler temps + warm soil = perfect conditions for grass seed to take root

✔️ Less competition from weeds means better results

✔️ More time to establish before next summer’s heat

✔️ Stronger natural defense against weeds

There are three great options for your lawn depending on its overall health.

1. Total Lawn Renovation:

If you’re trying to fight invasive grasses like Bermuda or Crabgrass, we recommend total kill out as the best method of eradicating Bermuda and Crabgrass followed up with power seeding. We recommend total lawn renovations beginning in August because of the time between kill outs and power seeding.

2. Power seeding:

If your lawn is thinning, has bare spots, or is overrun with weeds and undesirable grasses, power seeding is the best choice. The process of power seeding - also known as slit seeding - is completed with a machine that cuts a slit into the lawn and deposits seed at the same time. This provides simultaneous aeration, dethatching, and seeding.

After power seeding your lawn, we will broadcast seed along the edges, and apply a new lawn starter fertilizer that provides the micronutrients your lawn needs to promote root development.

3. Aeration and Broadcast Seeding

In the Louisville area many of our homes and businesses are battling heavy, dense, clay soil. This is why we recommend aeration and broadcast seeding for lawns that are generally healthy. The aeration machine pulls 2-3 inch plugs or “cores” from the lawn. This aids in reducing compaction in the soil to promote the flow of oxygen, micronutrients, and water to the roots of the lawn. Combining aeration with broadcast seeding boosts turf density and increases the number of healthy grass plants in your lawn.

Seeding now sets your lawn up for long-term success and is one of the best ways to naturally prevent weeds by boosting density. We only have a short window each fall for seeding — and our schedule fills up fast. Put our 46 years of experience to work for you this season.
